Building a website for accommodation on Naxos: what it takes
A website for accommodation on Naxos has its own particularities the designer needs to pay attention to. Beyond looking good and taking bookings, it’s often a guest’s first “taste” of the island, and the first place they need to understand how they’ll actually get there. Having built the websites for Ploes Naxos and Archon Naxos, here’s what I’ve learned about what a site like this really needs.
How guests get there
Naxos has its own airport (JNX), about 4 km from Chora, with daily domestic flights from Athens year-round (Sky Express, Aegean, Olympic Air, roughly 40-45 minutes) plus seasonal flights from Thessaloniki and Heraklion. There are no direct international flights, so visitors coming from abroad either connect through Athens or arrive by ferry.
The ferry remains the most common way to arrive, especially for anyone island-hopping. Naxos has one port, in Chora, with three departure points from Athens: Piraeus (year-round, most companies), Rafina (seasonal, roughly late May to mid-September), and Lavrio (weekly, via Kea and Kythnos). Depending on the boat, the crossing takes 4 to 9 hours. Naxos is also a hub for island-hopping, with direct connections to Paros, Mykonos, Santorini, Ios, and more.
That means an accommodation website on Naxos needs a clear, dedicated “how to get here” section — not buried in an FAQ. And because summer schedules (both flights and ferries) fill up, a message that encourages booking tickets early carries real value for the guest, not just for us.
Getting the aesthetic right
Modern design in Cycladic accommodation is moving away from cold, sterile minimalism toward a warmer kind of luxury: whitewashed walls and cubic volumes, but with natural light, a flow between indoor and outdoor space, and authentic texture.
In web design, that translates into generous white space that echoes those whitewashed walls, a color palette borrowed from the sea, sky, and stone. On Ploes Naxos we followed exactly that logic: clean lines, natural textures, and a palette reminiscent of the Aegean.
What we built for Ploes Naxos and Archon Naxos
Ploes Naxos is a fully custom website — not a template — with content in Greek, English, and French, and a popup reservation form reachable from any page, so guests can ask about availability without losing their place in the site.
Archon Naxos is a newly built boutique complex steps from Plaka beach, with studios, double rooms, and multi-room units with sea views. The site foregrounds the pool and the area’s water sports (windsurfing, kitesurfing, snorkeling, diving), with a gallery of drone aerial photography.

A basic checklist for any accommodation website on Naxos
Beyond the above, a few essentials apply to any accommodation on the island:
- Easy booking, visible on every page — not buried in a menu.
- Real, high-quality photography — the island’s light, the view, room details.
- Mobile-first design — most guests research and plan their trip from their phone.
- Trust signals — reviews, clear contact information.
- A “how to get here” section, as covered above.
